Cross-Grade Learning Reflects The Oakbrook Way of Fostering Relationships
Oakbrook Prep students recently experienced hands-on, cross-grade learning as high school Anatomy students partnered with fourth grade classes for an interactive cow’s heart dissection.
During the lab, high school students guided their younger peers through the anatomy of the heart, explaining its chambers, valves, and function while encouraging questions and curiosity. The collaborative experience allowed fourth graders to see science in action while learning directly from older students who served as mentors and role models.
For the high school Anatomy students, the experience offered a meaningful opportunity to reinforce their understanding of human anatomy while developing leadership, communication, and teaching skills. For the fourth graders, it was an engaging and memorable way to connect classroom learning to real-world biology.
This shared lab experience reflects The Oakbrook Way—a commitment to fostering strong relationships, collaboration, and meaningful learning across grade levels. By bringing older and younger students together, Oakbrook Prep intentionally creates opportunities for mentorship, connection, and community, reinforcing that learning is strongest when relationships are at the center.
