Oakbrook Preparatory School Joins STAR Fellowship Program

Oakbrook Preparatory School is proud to announce its acceptance into the STAR Fellowship Program, a prestigious workforce development initiative co-sponsored by OneSpartanburg, Inc. and the Spartanburg Academic Movement (SAM). Oakbrook is just the second non-public school to be invited into the program, which connects students with real-world career exploration through internships and cooperative learning opportunities.

The Spartanburg Talent and Retention (STAR) Fellowship is designed to give students hands-on experience in professional fields, helping them explore their interests, develop valuable workplace skills, and build strong connections with local businesses and organizations.

Head of School R. Andrew Bell has appointed Mrs. Ashley Hairr, Oakbrook’s Director of Counseling, as the school’s Career Development Facilitator. In this role, Mrs. Hairr will guide students through the program and ensure their experiences complement Oakbrook’s college-preparatory mission.

“We are exploring opportunities to marry the STAR Fellowship with our students’ Senior Capstone Project,” said Mr. Bell. “These experiences will only enrich our students’ knowledge and skills and will contribute greatly to their student portfolios. As a premier college preparatory school, we are thrilled to be offered this invitation.”

Mrs. Hairr also shared her excitement about the new program:

“I’m thrilled about this new partnership because it expands internship opportunities for our students, strengthens the Senior Project, and provides real-world experiences where Oakbrook students can showcase their talents and truly shine in the community.”

Participation in the STAR Fellowship aligns closely with Oakbrook’s vision to equip students not only for success in higher education but also for meaningful, purpose-driven lives. By combining rigorous academics with real-world career exposure, Oakbrook continues to provide opportunities that prepare students to lead with integrity and impact their communities.
