GENERAL FAQ ABOUT VARIABLE TUITION

The Variable Tuition program allows families to apply for an adjustment of their tuition on the basis of each family's individual financial situation, making an Oakbrook Preparatory School education affordable to qualified students who could not otherwise join our school community.

Any family of a K5-12th grade student may apply for Variable Tuition if the family is concerned about affording the full tuition rate at Oakbrook Preparatory School. Many factors, including income, assets, unusual expenses, and the size of the family, are taken into consideration when determining the amount of tuition a family is able to pay. Additional resources (in addition to regular income) available for the family in a given year must also be considered when determining Variable Tuition awards available at Oakbrook Preparatory.

It is not possible for a family or the school to estimate the tuition level for which a family qualifies without the completion of a Variable Tuition application, which is submitted directly to FACTS Grant & Aid, a third-party agency. FACTS evaluates the application on the basis of criteria set by the school and makes a recommendation to the school's Variable Tuition team. Oakbrook Preparatory School's Business Department then notifies families of the tuition level for which they qualify.

Unfortunately, Oakbrook Preparatory is not able to provide Variable Tuition to every deserving student. We work within the available resources to make the school accessible to as many students and families as possible.

Oakbrook Preparatory School asks families to make a financial investment in their child's education. Our commitment to providing Variable Tuition means that we are sharing in that investment with families.

Oakbrook does not offer any merit-based (academic, athletic, or arts) scholarships. We only offer our need-based Variable Tuition program. This program is designed to make Oakbrook Preparatory School accessible to qualified families from a wide range of financial backgrounds.

No. Oakbrook Preparatory School strives to keep classes at sizes that will create an ideal learning environment for our students and teachers. With that in mind, we will continue to accept qualified, mission-appropriate students.

Go to FACTS Grant & Aid, the third-party service we utilize to help us determine the amount of Variable Tuition adjustment that is appropriate for your family. FACTS will need you to submit some personal expense information, your federal income tax return, W-2 forms, and supporting documentation for nontaxable income.

Upon completion of my Variable Tuition application, when will I receive confirmation of my Variable Tuition?

Once all required information has been submitted to our confidential third-party service, the process of approving and sending the Variable Tuition offer letter typically takes about two weeks. The offer letter will arrive by email.

The cost to submit an application to FACTS for Variable Tuition is approximately $40. This nonrefundable amount is collected by FACTS, not by Oakbrook Preparatory School.

Variable Tuition applications can be submitted as early as January 1 for the following school year and funds are awarded based on availability.

No. Only families who feel that they may not be able to pay the exit range (highest amount) of tuition should submit an application.

Multiple students are one of the key factors in determining Variable Tuition. One of the important questions asked on the confidential Variable Tuition application relates to family size and number of students enrolled at Oakbrook Preparatory School. If you qualify for and accept a Variable Tuition adjustment, you will not see a separate discount for multiple students on your statement. However, it will be a part of the calculation for the Variable Tuition adjustment.

Yes. A new application must be submitted every year.

Yes. A family that does not qualify is welcome to reapply the following year.

New tuition amounts are approved by the Board of Trustees and typically posted in early January.

For New Families/Students

Yes. If you are interested in Variable Tuition, please check the "I am interested in Variable Tuition" box on the student application, and you will receive more information. In order to receive an adjusted tuition offer letter (which arrives by email), a new student application must be submitted.

Yes. For new students, application to Oakbrook Preparatory School and application for Variable Tuition are two separate processes. However, new families may complete both application processes simultaneously.

No. Admission applications and Variable Tuition applications are evaluated separately, and an application for Variable Tuition has no bearing on the admission process.

Oakbrook Preparatory works within the available resources to make a Christian education accessible to as many students and families as possible. It is recommended that families apply for Variable Tuition as early as possible.

Please contact the Oakbrook Preparatory Business Department if you are enrolling mid-year and are interested in Variable Tuition.

We are currently unable to offer Variable Tuition to our international students. Please email the international program director for international student tuition and fees information.
