Born in Greenwood, South Carolina, Cathy has lived most of her life in the Spartanburg/Greenville area. Cathy was first drawn to Oakbrook for the academic environment where faculty are encouraged to creatively ignite in students a love for learning. Cathy earned her BA in Special Education at Furman University then her M.ED at the University of South Carolina. Cathy’s career began in Greenville SC teaching Special Education then serving in Administration before coming to Oakbrook where she has taught a variety of history classes and Senior Project. Since serving as Oakbrook's Director of College Guidance Cathy has searched for opportunities to expand her knowledge in the area of college admissions. From attending college “fly-ins” at Duke, Southeastern University and Vanderbilt to spending an intensive week at Harvard's Summer Institute for College Admissions, Cathy strives to stay academically current on the ever-changing college scene. On a personal level, Cathy enjoys reading, art, traveling and playing with her dogs. She is married to Paul, an attorney with Butler, Means, Evins & Browne and together they have two grown children, Michael and Laura. Cathy and Paul attend Hope Point Community Church in Spartanburg.
