Christiana Wayne’s remarkable high school experience defies any attempt at a quick summary.

Oakbrook Prep’s valedictorian and student body president served as captain for the school’s basketball, soccer and quiz bowl teams. An accomplished pianist, she was part of the school’s chapel band. She has a deep interest in the law and politics, serving as a clerk with a local law firm. She’s deeply involved in the community, helping to coordinate Oakbrook’s donations to P.S. I Love You Ministries and helping to provide childcare and organizing volunteer legal seminars with English Crossing, a ministry that provides English lessons to immigrant families.

In the classroom, Wayne compiled a 5.54 weighted GPA, took 13 advanced placement courses, was selected for the AP Capstone Research Program, and was a National AP Scholar, National Merit Finalist, and member of the National Honor Society. She is the recipient of the prestigious Morehead-Cain Scholarship to the University of North Carolina.

She’s a standout on the field and court as well, earning All-State and Region Player of the Year honors in soccer while helping lead the Knights to four straight state titles, and making the North-South and SCISA/GISA all-star teams in basketball.

In recognition of her exemplary high school career, Wayne has been selected as the recipient of the Herald Journal/GoUpstate Steve Sanders Award. The award is named for former preps writer Steve Sanders, who covered high school sports for more than 25 years. It is awarded to a high school senior who exhibits excellence in athletics, academics and community service throughout the school year. A $500 scholarship is awarded to the student in Sanders’ memory.
