Name: Dawn Rollins

Position: Most of my 20 years I served as the Middle School Director/MS Math & Science and Theatre Director/Chorus Teacher/Drama Teacher. As of 2021-22 (with my "semi-retirement"), I enjoy being the Theatre Director and teaching Physical Science & Drama. And sponsoring the Glee Club!

How long have you been at Oakbrook: 2022-23 will be 20 years, and my 37th total year in education.

How do you like to spend your free time: I enjoy time with family. Family vacations are my favorite, especially destinations with historic or scientific significance. My husband and I are excited to add a new daughter to our family this Saturday, June 4th. Our son Adam, former Oakbrook Chemistry & Physics teacher, will wed Miss Mary Hope. A new puppy will be joining us in August, and I will become a grandmother in late summer.❤ Our son Cody and DIL Emily are expecting little Davis Lillian on September 7th, and I am counting the days. I am so blessed with many wonderful things to fill my free time.

What do you love most about teaching: Teaching is different in the STEM and Arts fields, but what I love about teaching in each is the same - seeing progress and passion in students. In theatre/drama, I love seeing students walk away more confident - holding their shoulders straighter and their heads higher, becoming bolder and braver, and more comfortable being themselves! In math & science classes, I love to see that light go on, seeing them understand something they didn't understand yesterday, and develop a desire to learn more.

What do you love most about working at Oakbrook: At Oakbrook, I feel like I can really focus on teaching without all of the extraneous elements in education that sometimes get in the way. I am able to have fun and simply teach - and my kids can enjoy learning.
